Mission Statement:

“To provide youths with free access to musical instruments, instruction, and music-making environments, so that music can become a profoundly positive influence in their lives.”

Notes for Notes is dedicated to giving underprivileged children the opportunity to explore and experience music, and to provide these children with positive, safe, and inspiring environments to help direct their lives away from negative social situations.

Notes for Notes was founded on the core belief that music is the universal language of humankind, and has the power to transcend virtually any barrier—be it economic, cultural, racial, or societal. As such, music promises a route via which at-risk and underprivileged youths may redirect their energies into activities that benefit themselves, their community, and the world at large.

The Notes for Notes team is working hard to raise financial support for their programs and to foster community awareness of the opportunities music can create in promoting positive changes in the lives of youths.

Imagine a world without Mozart, Beethoven, and Bach. Without Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, and B.B. King. Without Eric Clapton, Sting, and the Beatles. Without marching bands at football games, string quartets at weddings, and Mariachi bands at Fiesta. What a bleak place our planet would be! But that’s exactly the landscape we
are fostering right now, and it’s getting worse with each
passing day.

We’ve all read about how funding for school music programs keeps getting cut, and cut, and cut some more. Most people react with “Tsk, tsk. That’s just terrible.” But few make the next intellectual leap and understand that by eliminating the opportunities for children to hold a musical instrument in their hands and take part in the creation of music, we’re not just robbing them of one of life’s greatest experiences—we’re creating a world that that will cease to generate Isaac Sterns and Stephen Sondheims and Artie Shaws and Herbie Hancocks.

Enter Notes for Notes. Founded by two smart, energetic, and passionate young men, this Santa Barbara non-profi t organization is creating programs that will keep musical instruments in the hands of young people and provide venues for them to make music—both for mastering their instruments, and for playing music with each other. Notes for Notes provides these programs at no cost to the participants.
