Every guitar player (and any one who knows what a guitar even is) knows the Gibson name. You have all seen Les Pauls slung low on Slash, Jimmy Page and SGs swinging on Angus Young and Derek Trucks but you should also know how much the company believes in giving back. The Gibson Foundation recently stepped up to support Notes for Notes’ first two MusicBox Studios in Nashville, TN. The MusicBox is packed with Epiphone guitars from Zach Wylde’s signature Les Paul to Electric Les Paul Ukuleles. Take a look at the video tour below and notice the copious amount of “axes” rocking the studio.

A guitar players dream! Don’t you wish you had access to a guitar “playground” like this when you were younger? Well, that’s why we do what we do and why Gibson has stepped up to support as well. The next generation of musicians now get a chance to learn on the best. We are honored to have their generous support in Nashville and look forward to building a long term relationship as Notes for Notes continues to grow nation-wide.

Do you have a story of when you played your first Gibson or Epiphone? Please Share

The first Nashville MusicBox Studio is open and we are making music right out of the gate. It is hard to believe that just shy of a year ago we began talking about expanding to Nashville. I made the first trip to Nashville in early December 2010 for an investigatory trip and returned with overwhelming support. On trip #2 in April 2011 Rod and I hoped on a Frontier flight and rallied even more support among some very cool folks, including the most important support from the Boys & Girls Club of Middle Tennessee. I made a follow up trip in early June and officially made the drive across country in mid-august to begin getting to the task at hand. This entire expansion would not have been possible without the overwhelming support of the Hot Topic Foundation (and Joe Emory). There is an incredible amount of equipment and resources in the studio thanks to the Gibson Foundation, KRK, Numark, Sheryl Crow, Thridman Records and Jack White, Avid, Propellerhead, Peavey, Seymour Duncan and Ernie Ball Strings.

Check out the tour below as well as some other video nuggets of the awesome musical action already happening in the new MusicBox Studio. If you find yourself in Nashville, please stop by for a visit (just as Michael and Anne Towbes did)

Steve “Guitar” Miller stops by the MusicBox to inspire and jam before a monumental concert for Notes for Notes in honor of Seymour Duncan’s 35th anniversary. *Note: this is a pre-post to a much a larger post to come down the road about the show with more photos and video. The day before the big concert MJ from Seymour Duncan brought Steve by the N4N MusicBox at the Boys and Girls Club to meet some of the Notes for Notes band and learn a little more about the organization. The moment Steve got to the studio he got right into it and proved why he is a total pro in every way and one of the biggest hearts in music. Check out the video below and get a glimpse of this cool moment. Also, check out the piece in the Santa Barbara News Press about the show here.

Only in Nashville could you go in for a haircut and come out with a snare drum. That’s what happened to me this week. Got a great haircut from Deb and upon leaving met a cool guy name Chuck (musician) who gave me a snare drum for the studio when I told him about Notes for Notes. This is such an amazing town and Notes for Notes is booming here.

Jack White, Sheryl Crow, Ben Folds and the Black Crowes are just a few of the relationships forming around Notes for Notes in Nashville. Allow me elaborate… Thanks to Evan Skopp at Seymour Duncan and his intro to Danny Flowers (incredible songwriter who wrote Tulsa Time for Clapton) the connections just started rolling. Danny introduced me to Sharon, the studio manager at Ben’s (Folds) Studio who is extremely helpful and made the intro to Sheryl Crow’s right hand guy, Rick Purcell. The next day I met Rick and he gave us a couple of consoles and some studio gear from Sheryl’s studio, since she was moving. Within two days, we developed connections with Sheryl and Ben-can you say incredible! That’s just how this town works.

Thanks to Luke Ebbin (our venture group member) who made an introduction to Steve Gorman (drummer for the Black Crowes) we are going to have some awesome drum workshops coming down the line. I met with Steve last week and showed him the studio and he offered to come in and jam when ever he has time-very cool guy! In regards to Jack White, those who have been listening to me know that I have been hoping for a way to get him involved since Nashville became a possibility. I respect his music and the vibe he has cultivated with his whole operation at Third Man Records. Check it out at thirdmanrecords.com. There will be a more detailed post on this down the road, but just to intrigue you… in our first Nashville MusicBox we will have a Third Man Record Station featuring a branded Crosley record player, Third Man headphones and the latest Third Man Releases. Can you say awesome. A big thank you to Ben Swank for making it all happen.

The first Nashville MusicBox is pretty much open and packed with Epiphones thanks to support from the Gibson Foundation! Big post with pictures and video to follow!

Until then… Rock on!
