Charity WardArea Director
Charity grew up in Detroit where her love for soul music was birthed. Her adolescent appreciation for Stevie Wonder and John Mayer led her to songwriting and the guitar. She majored in English and Africana Studies and earned a minor in Commercial Music at the historically Black college Tennessee State University where her passion for culture and community grew immensely. After graduating and spending three years serving underprivileged youth in Nashville, Charity returned to her hometown to continue serving youth through the means of music in her native community as the Program Director of the Notes for Notes Detroit Studio.
Charity is also pursuing a career in music as a performing and recording artist and is currently signed to Detroit based label Original 1265 Records where she recently released her debut EP entitled “Yellow” which offers to her beloved city and to its listeners a sentiment of happiness and of love.
Rufus SmithProgram Director
Rufus Smith is a rapper, a hip hop educator, and a youth program director. Originally from Houston, Texas, Rufus has been living in Memphis since 2010 by way of Howard University. After founding and directing a hip hop program at Streets Ministries, he expanded his focus to include the classroom. Outside of hip hop education and after school music programming, he spends time working on personal hip hop projects. Rufus also has a 6 year old son named Malachi who is already a pretty good rapper himself!
