PRODUCING TOMORROW’S MUSICIANS®

NOTES FOR NOTES® is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing youth with completely FREE access to music instruments, instruction and recording studio environments so that music may become a profoundly positive experience in their lives.

NOTES FOR NOTES STUDIOS are packed with guitars, drums, keys/synths, DJ gear, digital music stations and professional recording gear offering youth completely FREE access to explore, create, and record music. Located inside Boys & Girls Clubs and after-school centers in underserved areas around the country, every studio is staffed by a N4N team member. These Producers educate, encourage, and listen to each youth member to help them be their best selves, both personally and artistically.

Current Studios: Nashville x2, Memphis, San Francisco x2, Santa Barbara x2, Los Angeles x3, Las Vegas, Austin, St. Paul, Milwaukee, Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, DC, and New York City x5 + coming soon to High Point, NC with our first studio in partnership with a public school.

When we set out to build free after-school recording studios for youth (in 2006) we knew there was only one option for the studio’s main brain, a Mac. But financially we were not in a place to equip at this level and had to resort to PCs, even some hand built ones to reduce cost. Our first studio was partially equipped with personal gear including my first guitar that my parents shipped out from VT and building it out also resulted in my first maxed out credit card. As we’ve grown over the past 16 years from one studio in a city teen center to 24 studios across 13 states in schools and after-school facilities (Boys & Girls Clubs) we’ve invested where we could on standardizing with Macs, however, besides construction it remains one of our biggest capital purchases. Over half of our studios remain Mac-less and while still functional are far from optimized due to existing PC workflow. We’ve been fortunate to receive a lot of in-kind support from music manufacturers like Gibson, Universal Audio, DW, Roland, Audio-Technica, KRK, Avid, Slate, Native Instruments, Casio, Fender and more. Anyone in the creative space knows that all roads lead back to Apple and we hope that ours has finally led us to a partnership with you.

We’ve outlined paths to partnership ranging from Logic licenses, Hardware to Studio Sponsorship or even a Cupertino N4N Studio. Your support could optimize our mission in a variety of ways allowing us at an even greater scale to Produce Tomorrow’s Musicians.

Logic Pro remains a go to for our Producers but when they find that their N4N Studio might be sans Logic due to a lack of a Mac, their heart sinks. Ensuring that every studio has access to Logic Pro ensures that sessions can be shared and young artists and Producers across our 24 studios can collaborate on tracks together. We ask for your support of (2) Logic Pro Licenses per studio (48 Total) to equip current studios and prepare for expansion.

POWERING THE STUDIO

The combination of Logic Pro and a Mac is a sonically lethal combination and a necessary technologic cornerstone for our studios and therefore mission. Of the studios we’ve been able to upgrade and launch with Macs from the onset we’ve found a Mac mini (main mix) and MacBooks (Podcasting setup and DJ controller) provide a rock solid foundation to accomplish all our programming goals. We are humbly open to more advanced models as well as previous gen and refurbished Macs. To retrofit all remaining Mac-less N4N studios and prepare for new studios on the immediate horizon we ask for 16 Mac minis and 60 MacBook pros.

We emphasize the refurbished and previous generation models will find new life in our studios and given the scope of this ask we appreciate any in-kind support Apple can provide.

ADOPT AN N4N STUDIO

24 Mac-equipped N4N Studios will translate to MORE youth having access to MORE tools to create MORE originals songs equaling MORE fire tracks from tomorrow’s musicians. But in order to maintain programming and reach even more youth, opportunities to financially support are available for sponsoring and rebranding existing N4N studios/rooms (sustainability) or building new studios, such as one for the youth of Cupertino (expansion). N4N would love to explore and present a more detailed proposal if either strategy or a combination to power the N4N mission may align with Apple’s philanthropic endeavors.
